Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is Plant Essence Therapy! It can be added to any massage and body works to customize an individual treatment plan with the most health benefits just for you

Below is a list of aromatherapy oils I use in my practice. Please advise me if you are allergic to any of those. 

Arnica Oil

Is a homeopathic anti-inflammatory that may be used for traumatic injury, bruises, strained joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, tensive backache, concussion, stroke, heart strain and for reducing pain and bleeding after surgery.

Camphor Oil

Highly recommended for respiratory congestion. Best used for pain relief and respiratory tract conditions. White Camphor oil is an analgesic and does well to alleviate painful conditions such as rheumatism and neuralgia. Camphor oil is cooling on the skin and reduces inflammatory conditions - this is very helpful for rheumatoid arthritis, bruising and swelling. It also is attributed to reducing the formation of scar tissue. Hot Camphor oil compress is good for Lymph detox.  

Cedarwood Oil

Best used as a regenerative oil - a cleansing general tonic for the respiratory system, and as an expectorant - to help eliminate phlegm from the lungs, improving congestion and chest infections. It has a good effect on asthma as a natural respiratory tonic. Also good for cystitis treatment for urinary tract infection and rheumatism as well as for acne and skin and scalp disorders. 

Chamomile Oil

Best used as an anti-inflammatory oil with regenerative qualities. Well documented history of assistance with all types of skin disease including dermatosis, eczema, itchy and/or irritated skin, inflamed skin, dandruff, etc. Typically chamomile oil can help in situations of skin inflammation, irritation, dermatitis, hives and rashes and is noted as extremely helpful for severe skin problems and burns. Antibiotic and bactericidal properties help prevent infections from forming and can reduce current infections.

Cinnamon Oil

Best used in aromatherapy for raising low blood pressure as it is a circulatory stimulant. It is the perfect natural home remedy for aching muscles and cold extremities due to poor circulation. Cinnamon oil also benefits those suffering from infection, coughs, colds, flu, rheumatism, and arthritis. Cinnamon essential oil is well known as a restorative oil and helps aid in recovery from illness and is also curative in calming feelings of isolation, fear and tension. It is also noted as helpful for controlling bacteria.

Citronella Oil

Known to clear the mind and can be useful against headaches and migraines. Natural purifier for controlling bacteria and disinfections. 

Clary Sage Oil

Very useful as a natural Menstrual and Menopausal remedy due to its estrogen like structure. Many women find Clary Sage oil to benefit them during times of cramping, moodiness, depression and irritability, hot flashes. Also regenerative to skin, smoothing wrinkles and overall skin rejuvenation. Calming and anti-inflammatory to the respiratory system, lowering high blood pressure. 

Clove Oil 

Best for Bronchitis and Respiratory infections - Clove Oil opens bronchial pathways so you can breah again! Good topical application for warts, scabies and ringworm, as well as for rheumatism and arthritis - clove bud oil is highly anti-bacterial due to the high eugenol content. Clove Bud oil is also an excellent ingredient in a massage blend for reducing pain and aches in muscles due to its analgesic properties. Pure Clove Oil is a general tonic, nerve tonic, and is stimulating and strengthening. 

Eucalyptus Oil

Best for Bronchitis, and respiratory congestion - it opens sinus and bronchial passages and breaks mucus apart. A strong anti-biotic, anti-fever, and anti-infectious oil for breathing difficulties - good effect on asthma and bronchial infections. This oil is an antiseptic stimulant and antibacterial agent, proving to be highly effective in killing airborne bacteria when used in a humidifier or diffuser, making it a great room disinfectant!  Also good for relief of stiff, sore muscles and arthritis.

Frankincense Oil

Frankincense oil of boswellia frereana only grows in Somalia and is considered to be the King of All Frankincese oil. Our Frankincense oil of Boswellia frereana is best used in aromatherapy for respiratory conditions (inhaled) and skin conditions (diluted and applied topically). In addition, it opens the spiritual pathways allowing for greater introspection and is inhaled for meditation. When used for meditiation and spiritual awareness, frankincense can quiet the mind, is uplifting, and can increase intuition and dream recall. 

Geranium Oil

Uplifting, calming, flowery scent. It is excellent for the skin, and its aromatic influence helps release negative memories. Used traditionally to support the circulatory and nervous systems, a great deal of its strength lies in its ability to revitalize body tissues.

Ginger Oil

Supportive of the digestive system, ginger is commonly used to soothe, comfort, and balance digestive discomfort.

Grapefruit Oil

Inhaled for emotional troubles including depression, sadness, anxiety, and moodiness and can induce a state of euphoria and elation. The inviting fragrance comes from the peel of the citrus paradisi, and it is a natural remedy for depression leaving you feeling like you are on cloud nine. This essential oil has a variety of other uses as well. It is a natural cure for hangovers, as it is a detoxification agent, and also provides headache relief. Also helpful in relieving fluid retention and acts as a depurative, restorative, anti infectious oil. This essential oil is very beneficial in cellulite preparations because it stimulates circulation, removes toxins (depurative) and reduces cellular congestion. In addition, it helps tone and tighten skin, giving a smoother appearance. Also stimulate the gall bladder and lymphatic system as well as reduce water retention and aid digestion.

Helichrysum Oil

Helichrysum Essential oil is also known as Everlast. The essential oil of Helichysum Italicum has a very distinct fragrance that can be described by some as almost hay like. Helichrysum oil is known to stimulate of right side of the brain which controls Intuition, Creativity, and Visualization. Helichrysum oil is also said to provide emotional comfort over grief and loss, as well as a feeling of unconditional love. Physically, Helichrysum Essential Oil is one of the few aromatherapy oils that can be applied neat to cuts, burns and abrasions to speed healing and prevent bruising and swelling. Helichrysum Essential oil is best known for its ability to stimulate new cell production and is often praised for it regenerative effect in smoothing scar tissue and healing wounds. 

Hyssop Oil

Hyssop oil comes from the sacred or holy herb of Hyssopus officinalis. It is best used for the respiratory system, digestive system and skin diseases. For the respiratory system, hyssop oil is used for bronchitis, cough, asthma, dyspnoea and congestion. Hyssop oil has also been indicated to alleviate hay fever, sinus allergies and runny nose. Skin diseases including eczema, herpes simplex, and wounds can benefit from Hyssop oil as well.

Juniper Oil

The most beneficial use for juniper is as an antiseptic. This oil is commonly used to cleanse the body, ridding it of excess fluids, and is helpful with kidney and bladder problems. Also excellent for treatment of gout, chronic arthritis, cystitis, and digestive issues. This essential oil is also useful in relieving mental fatigue, nervous tension, hay fever, acne and overindulgence. Pure juniper berry oil is also listed as helpful for obesity and cellulite as it is known to remove toxins, is a diuretic, and has (physical) cleansing properties. Juniper oil is also used for purification and cleasing of the spirit, as well as spiritual protection. Juniper essential oil is used to remove negative energy and encourage mental clarity. 

Lavender Oil

Lavender Oil is one of the most beneficial essential oils used in aromatherapy. This oil is a multi-purpose oil that seems to go to the source of whatever is ailing in the body. Lavender essential oil is one of the most balancing oils and can be used for relaxation or rejuvenation. In general, it is inhaled for sadness, depression, anxiety, tension, panic or hysteria and insomnia. Pure Lavender oil can be applied topically to heal wounds and minor burns, eczema, dermatitis, relief from insect bites and inflammatory conditions. Use lavender oil in a bath for muscle spasms, relaxation, and fatigue. Hot or cold compress can be used with lavender oil for rashes, headache, migraines, arthritis and muscle spasms. Whatever ails you, Lavender essential oil can probably help.

Lemon Oil

Lemon Oil is one of the most useful essential oils. The scent is emotionally uplifting, and is thought to be centering. The essential oil that comes from the lemon peel is antiseptic, antibiotic and astringent. Lemon oil will help to cleanse the body, ridding it of excess fluids, and will act as a detoxifier (lemon detox), purifying blood and organs (depurative). It is rejuvenating;  it inspires and clears the mind while bringing a fresh energy into the environment . Lemon Oil is very uplifting, yet relaxing and does not overstimulate. 

Lemongrass Oil

Lemongrass Oil that comes from the grass of Cymbopogon citratus is antiseptic, and antibacterial. When inhaled, Lemongrass oil can act as a sedative to the nervous system and helps to relieve nervous disorders. The scent is very strong and a little oil goes a long way. Pure Lemongrass essential oil is helpful for infections and is a general tonic. 

Melissa Oil 

Melissa Essential Oil (lemon balm) has been known to greatly reduce wounded, hurt feeling and provides a sense of release and emotional closure while strengthening and revitalizing the spirit. It would also help to treat from cold sores and gout. The leaves of melissa officinalis are antibacterial, antispasmodic, antiviral, digestive, emmenagogue, febrifuge, sedative, and tonic. 

Myrrh Oil

Myrrh Essential oil, Commiphora myrrha, is a pectoral, balsamic, and expectorant oil, and is most effective in treating colds, chest infections, coughs, bronchitis, sore throat, and catarrh. Myrrh is known as an effective natural cough and cold remedy. This oil is also well known for curing cold sores, mouth ulcers, gum infections, ulcerations and wounds. Myrrh oil is often used in medetation blends because it promotes a sense of higher awareness, clarity of throught and is centering when inhaled.

Neroli Oil

Neroli Essential Oil comes from orange flowers handpicked at the peak of bloom. The very low yield accounts for the very high price as 1000 lbs of flowers only produces 16 oz of oil. Relaxing and sedative, neroli is helpful in sleep and relaxation blends and is also beneficial during times of shock and hysteria. Neroli is useful with bergamot and grapefruit oils for depression, sadness, nervousness, tension, anxiety and fear. Also for calming inestinal spasms.

Orange Oil 

Orange Oil is commonly used as an anti-viral oil to help prevent the spread of viruses. Sweet Orange is rich in vitamin C and anti-oxidents, making it a useful oil in the cosmetics industry. When inhaled, Orange oil can act as a sedative to the nerveous system and helps to relieve nervous disorders. Also helps eliminate toxins from the body. It is valued for it's diuretic, depurative and anti-spasmodic properties.

Oregano Oil

Oil of Oregano is known as a powerfully antiseptic, antibacterial and antiviral oil used for infections, rashes, herpes, scabies, lice, flu and fever. Oil can benefit bronchitis, bacterial pneumonia, and other respiratory infections as well as asthma. Oil of Oregano is currently one of the best essential oils to help prevent and defeat viruses and bacteria. Some researchers are studying the component carvacrol, found in oil of oregano, for its anti-cancerous and anti-tumoral properties.  Oregano Oil is very powerful.

Patchouli Oil

Patchouli Oil is known as sensual, romantic, natural aphrodisiac - most people either love the aroma or simply hate it. It contains ketones which benefit skin regeneration, wound healing and congested skin on a cellular level. This oil is one of the best essential oils for skin care. It is a very centering, grounding and healing oil that works well in meditation and spiritual blends. It is also antifungal and antibacterial. It is used for fungal infections, bacterial infections, ringworm, athlete's foot and dermatitis. 

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint Oil is commonly used for headaches, fevers, flu, and respiratory disorders. It is used in cold and flu chest rubs to help with chest congestion and cough. This menthol oil is cool to the touch and can be used topically to relieve pain and muscle aches. A rejuvenating oil, peppermint is used to increase confidence, spirituality and clairvoyance during meditation. Peppermint oil is used by some for the 7th Chakra (Crown) . 

Rose Oil

If you have every smelled Damask Rose oil, you know that it brings an immediate feeling of happiness and joy that is unmatched in the plant world. Rose Oil is one of the most prized essential oils in aromatherapy. Rose oil has a way of soothing emotions and allows a 'letting go" of anger and resentment. Physically, rose oil works on the liver, blood, and stomach and is a purifying and cleansing oil. A common ingredient in skin care, rose oil is helpful in healing scars, improves circulation and smoothes and moisturizes mature, dry skin. Rose Oil is excellent at reducing anxiety and worry, as well as alleviating melancholy and sadness. Rose oil is commonly used on the first and fourth chakras. The 1st Chakra (Base chakra) works on cleansing and protecting the aura. For the 4th chakra (Heart chakra), Rose Oil encourages harmony and balance - helpful for those looking to reconnect with the soul.

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil calms apprehension while stimulating the spirit. Rosemary oil is very much a yang oil, in that it provides stability and structure during times of emotional volatility. Rosemary essential oil is a wonderful remedy for many spiritual and emotional ailments, and is a must have in your collection. This oil is the perfect hair care ingredient as it stimulates the scalp and aids in healthy hair growth. Aids in memory. This oil stimulates and invigorates the mind and is commonly used on the 6th Chakra (Brow Chakra) for mental clarity and alertness (conscious mind). Also for aching joints and arthritis, as well as muscular weakness, poor circulation, headaches and to eliminate toxins from the body. 

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree oil of Melaleuca alternifolia is strongly antiseptic, diaphoretic, anti-fungal and expectorant oil and is used to treat stings, burns and skin and fungus infections. This oil is well known for benefiting boils, blisters, acne, warts, cold sores and athlete's foot. A drop can be applied neat for toenail fungus, or on the bottom of the foot for athlete's foot.  

Wintergreen Oil

Wintergreen invigorates the mind and uplifts the spirit. Oil of Wintergreen should not be used internally, as it contains high levels of methyl salicylate (the main ingredient in aspirin). Some people can be allergic to methyl salicylate so caution is recommended when using wintergreen oil in topical applications. In general, no more than 4 drops of Wintergreen oil per ounce should be used topically. Oil of Wintergreen has antiseptic properties and is helpful in treating skin care problems such as acne and scabies. The analgesic properties of Wintergreen oil make it useful in sports injury massage blends and blends for arthritis pain and rheumatism. Wintergreen Oil is commonly used in aromatherapy as an analgesic in pain relief blends for Arthritis, Back aches, Muscle Pain, Rheumatic Pain, and Joint Pain. 

Ylang Ylang Oil

Ylang Ylang Oil takes over 14 hours to distill, and various grades are produced during that distillation period. Ylang Ylang oil is used quite extensively in the cosmetics industry in face creams, fine perfumes, lotions, hair care products and soaps - the aroma is simply intoxicating! It seduces the senses and relaxes the mind. As a relaxation aid, Ylang Ylang oil reduces stress & tension, and helps to relieve feelings of frustration, anger & depression - this makes a fantastic bath oil. Inhaled, Ylang Ylang Oil is said to stimulate the adrenal glands, which create various hormones in the body. Ylang Ylang oil is considered to be a stimulant to the immune system and is used to treat thymus gland problems. Overall, Ylang Ylang Oil is a "Feel Good" oil - a soothing oil that helps to control anxiety and nervousness, irritability, depression and stress.
